Each year we welcome over 2,500 students and staff from schools worldwide.
Exploring Northern Thailand, a comparison to life in Phuket
25 – 29 March 2013
Students from BIS Phuket swapped the beaches of the south for the mountains of Chiang Mai for a week to explore the differences in their lifestyles. Upon arrival, students got stuck in immediately with ploughing and planting with the buffalos on the Traidhos Three-Generation Farm – an excellent excuse to get muddy!
To explore the comparisons between Phuket life and life in the North in detail, we spent a night in a Karen hill tribe. This was the highlight for many students: firstly for the beautiful hike through the mountains to reach the village, and then staying with host families in the village. If the new food, different styles of houses and traditional clothes weren’t enough, the cold temperatures at night were a big change for the group!
From visiting the summit of Doi Inthanon, building and sailing rafts, working together to cook a meal during Jungle Cooking and completing teambuilding challenges, the group improved their communication and teamwork skills, having a lot of fun at the same time! The Barge Program had a great week with BIS, and hope to see them again in the future!
