Each year we welcome over 2,500 students and staff from schools worldwide.
Y4 and Y5 come to the Barge!
On Tuesday 19 May 2015, the Barge Program welcomed Year 4 and Year 5 from RBIS on-board, all eager to examine the Chao Praya. The day began with a stop at the island of Koh Kret where students examined all the different ‘Shades of Green’ and plant types growing in amongst the riverside community. Their walk also involved them creating a ‘Farmland Cocktail’ which had them exploring with their noses to discover all the different natural scents around them. Our young participants enjoyed not only getting their hands dirty but also were inspired to find that different parts of plants could make a decent deodorizer.
The afternoon included looking at what influences different water uses have on the river - from farming to washing clothes, to fishing in the game ‘Common Water’. Before disembarking, ‘The Giving River’ story about how a boy grew up with the river as his good friend had the students pondering how they can contribute to sustainable resource use.
This was a short trip perhaps, but one not one easily forgotten and we look forward to welcoming RBIS students and teachers back on board again soon.
