Each year we welcome over 2,500 students and staff from schools worldwide.
Year 5 – Barge Trip
Regent’s International School Pattaya Year 5 joined the barge to explore the Chao Phraya River in Ayutthaya. Over the two weeks, four classes of excited and enthusiastic Year 5s enjoyed learning and living as a community on the barge.
The trips focused on the history of the ancient capital of Ayutthaya and we learned about life for the early traders in the Japanese village, the history of Thailand’s boats through the ages and the fate of Ayutthaya’s gold. With the help of a skilled local brick maker we also learned how to make the bricks that built Ayutthaya all those centuries ago.
Many of Ayutthaya’s original bricks are still standing in the temples and religious monuments that are spread throughout the ancient capital. During the trip we had the chance to explore the iconic Wat Chai Wattanaran and Wat Phra Sii Samphet.
This trip was also marked a central moment in the twenty years of Barge Program history – a student managed to take an accidental swim in the washing up containers! But fortunately he had a great sense of humour about the whole ordeal and days later was still able to see the funny side!
