Regents Bangkok (February 2013)

12 – 15 February 2013

A Week on the Water

The Barge Program welcomed twenty-four students from Regents School in Bangkok for four days of investigation, exploration, discovery and above all, FUN!

In Ayutthaya, the group examined the history of the Chao Phraya River, and learnt how important the river has been in shaping Thailand’s history. From here, we tried our hands at the old art of brick making, with mixed results.

On the barge, we investigated the ecology and habitats of the Chao Phraya through bird watching, water testing, water hyacinth investigation and observations of the river. This gave the students a deeper understanding of the river we depend on in Bangkok and then they jumped into the river to cool off – and to experience it firsthand!

Over the course of four days, the students lived and worked together, building a real sense of community on the barge. Communication and teamwork skills were tested and developed, and we waved goodbye to Regents at the end of a busy but very enjoyable trip. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
