Each year we welcome over 2,500 students and staff from schools worldwide.
St Andrew’s Green Valley Year Six joined us for a barge trip full of laughter and Ayutthaya adventure at the start of December.
After learning all about the Chao Phraya through a river observation activity and creating a miniature watershed on deck, we looked at how the river helped to create such an important city in Siam’s history – Ayutthaya.
Students got their hands stuck into rice husks and mud from the banks of the river to replicate the ancient bricks that made Ayutthaya, and we then stretched our legs by exploring the ancient city. Highlights of the day included market shopping, visting Wat Chai Wattanaram and forming creative responses to a guided imagery story at Wat Phra Sri Sanphet. However, nothing could excite the students more than ghost stories by starlight in the evening and a more calming sleep-story in the bedrooms afterwards.
Beyond delving into the past of Ayutthaya, students were also able to swim and canoe in the river, as well as visit a fresh food market and select a banquet fit for any King of Ayutthaya. After so much fun and interesting discussions with Group One, we can’t wait to welcome Group two on Monday for another excellent trip!
