Snake Farm Visit

Getting up close to one of Thailand’s most venomous animals might not be everyone’s idea of a day out; but the year 9 students of Brighton College embraced the challenge to aid their understanding of our own immune systems.

The Snake Farm - Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute showcases a wide variety of snake species, both venomous and non venomous, providing an example of the importance of taxonomy and classification of living organisms. Students enjoyed viewing the snakes and the brave even held the Burmese Python!

Through games and shows, including a live milking presentation, the students gained knowledge of anti-venom production, the role of white blood cells and antibodies in response to foreign cells entering our body’s, and first aid to treat a snake bite.
